Artist Research: Sia
As one of our possible choice artists, I did some research on Sia's style of music and how she presents herself as a text.
Sia is an Australian singer-songwriter, record producer and music video director. Her career started when she was part of an acid jazz band called Crisp in the mid 1990s. Her debut album, OnlySee, was released in 1997. After her debut she moved to London to provide lead vocals for the duo Zero 7.
The year 2000 marked her second studio album, Healing Is Difficult, with Sony-Music's sub label Dance Pool. She wasn't happy with the promotion of her album Sia switched label's and joined Go! Beat 's team to release her third album Colour the Small One in 2004. Sia faced problems of fitting in with the mainstream audience and moved to New York in 2005 and decided to tour the United States.
Her fourth album Some People Have Real Problems was released in 2008 and her fifth album came out in 2010 named We Are Born.
After these albums she decided to take a break from her own work and focused on song writing for other musicians. Her list of successful collaborations includes Titanium alongside David Guetta, Diamonds with Rihanna and Wild Ones with rapper Flo Rida.
2014 was the year her sixth album, 1000 Forms Of Fear was released, debuting at number one in the US Billboard 200 and produced breakthrough song Chandelier. She also produced a trilogy of music videos to go side by side with her album.
Her most recent album of This Is Acting produced her first number Hot 100 single Cheap Thrills. She also went on her Nostalgic for the Present Tour and was awarded an MTV VMA and a ARIA award.
She has also contributed to several film soundtracks including Finding Dory with a vocals to a cover of Nat King Cole's Unforgettable, Lion with Never Give Up and Wonder Woman with To Be Human.
