Editing Research: Cutting Rate
1. G-Eazy and Halsey - Him & I This music video uses a slower cutting rate, with longer cuts helping to emphasise what is being shown. The long cuts represent the length of the pair's relationship, and shows how love is everlasting and continuous. Although this is not the intention of our use of cutting rate, it has inspired us to use the cutting rate to portray a story or message. We can use quicker cuts to emphasise the differences between the two different characters, as well as how quickly and unexpectedly they can change.
2. Lana Del Rey - Young and Beautiful This music video uses a slower cutting rate to match the pace of the song. It is also keeps to the satire feel of the video, and creates for a more visually magnificent piece than one with a story and a need for more cuts. This could also be linked to the fact that it is completely performance-based, therefore there is little need to keep cutting to contribute to the story.
3. Charli XCX - Boys This music video uses cutting rate as a way to sync the visuals to the music, and to create a more entertaining watch. It doesn't necessarily contribute to the story, but it makes the video more interesting and visually pleasing.
